Versatile. It’s the word that perfectly sums up Sera Naiqama and the journey that has landed her here. And she’s only just beginning. Born in Australia to a Fijian family, Sera’s childhood was spent playing sport, often with or against her brothers. This sport loving family provided the perfect setting for her growing up and helped nurture her love of sport, and football in particular. At school, this meant playing Rugby Sevens – a game she embraced and excelled at. As she moved from Sevens into the 15-person format, a playing position at fullback beckoned. But it wasn’t long before an opportunity arose at Number 8 and from there Sera moved into the second row, proving to be a strong line-jumper. It’s a position she loves and has had a ‘lock’ on for the past few seasons at the Waratahs and Wallaroos. Versatile. It doesn’t stop there. Armed with a first-hand knowledge of rugby union and league and a willingness to explore new challenges, Sera has proven to be an insightful and articulate commentator. A growing and evident skill behind the microphone has seen her become a sought-after host, emcee, and pundit on radio and television. Hers is a career on the rise.
